Counting Scales

Counting Scales are digital machines that are able to count the number of parts out of a set of products placed on its scale. Standard digital counting scales achieve this by taking the weight of the products placed on top of the scale and dividing it by the weight of one of those products (computed as APW or average piece weight). Therefore, the majority of counting scales require the products being weighed to be of uniform weight.

Digital counting scales vary in size, capacity, precision, interfaces, error rate and readability (the display resolution). Some have options to attach larger scales, batteries computers and printers. Smaller scales tend to have more accuracy while larger ones have more capacity.

The two figures used to evaluate digital counting scares are display and internal resolution.

Display resolution is the ratio of capacity to readability and is used in conjunction with other measurements to determine quality.

Internal resolution is a newer term which combines display resolution and determines the overall accuracy of what is being counted; however, there is currently no uniformity among different makers as to the standards they use to determine either forms of resolution.
