Which weights do I need? - Your Guide to choosing the correct calibration weights for your Scales

Choosing the correct weights for your scales shouldn't be hard, Regular calibration checks should be easy and stress free, read this article form the team at Oakleyweigh to make choosing the correct calibration weights simple.

Matching your calibration weights to your scales.

To make sure that you get the best out of your calibration weights you must make sure they are suitable for your scales. Firstly, you must know your scales accuracy, as a simple rule of thumb if your scales accuracy is greater than 1g, M1 Test weights are recommended, If your scales are between 0.1mg and 1g it is usually recommended to use F1 Test weights

I know what class of weights I need now, what material of calibration weights should I have?

Here at Oakleyweigh, we sell multiple different types of weights Including: Stainless Steel, Iron and Boxed Sets. The amin difference between the three types are what environment you are using them in and cost.

  • Iron Weights are perfect for checking large amounts of weights for example any amount greater than 30kg, they are the most affordable out of the three and are very durable however are not suitable for wet/humid environments.
  • Stainless Steel Test weights are perfect for wet environments such as: when doing scale calibration in food factories, they offer unmatched durability and are very easy to clean and maintain.
  • Boxed sets of weights are perfect for calibration checks if you have more than one scale or would like multiple points of test for your scale.

What Certificates Do I need For My Weights:

When it comes to calibration weights, the type of certificate you need depends entirely on your industry requirements and quality standards. Choosing the right option ensures you meet compliance regulations and maintain confidence in your weighing results.

At Oakleyweigh, we offer three types of certificates to suit different needs:

  • UKAS Certificate – The highest level of accreditation, issued by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. Essential if your business operates under strict quality management systems (such as ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, or other regulated industries).

  • Traceable Certificate (to UKAS standards) – Provides traceability to national standards via UKAS but at a lower cost than a full UKAS certificate. A reliable option for most commercial and industrial applications.

  • In-House Certificate – Issued by our own team of experts, confirming accuracy and traceability within our internal quality system. Perfect for organisations that need assurance without formal accreditation.

Simply, it depends on your Quality standards, We offer UKAS, Traceable to UKAS standard and In-House Certificates. For more info, get in touch with us.
